Milton police’s Flock transparency portal: what it shows, and what it leaves out

Sometime between Oct. 5 and Oct. 8, the Milton Police Department put up a public page about its Flock license plate cameras. The city didn’t announce it, so we will. Here is what it says, saved as of Oct. 11 in case it changes, and what it leaves out.

What the department says about sharing

In September, in written answers to us, and now on the new page:

“Authorized law enforcement agencies outside Georgia can access Milton-collected data depending on the City’s sharing settings.” Milton Police, Sept. 11, 2026
“MPD only shares its data with agencies within the State of Georgia and with federal partners who operate in the State of Georgia.” Milton’s Flock page, read Oct. 11, 2026

The page lists 391 organizations granted access to Milton’s data. Most are Georgia police departments and sheriff’s offices. The list also includes 6 entries labeled federal, among them “[Federal] Indiana HIDTA,” and entries named “Puerto Rico live cameras,” “Flock Safety - Machine Learning Test” and “Georgia DOT Lookup Test - TEST DO NOT USE.” The page doesn’t say what those entries are. The full list is below.

What it leaves out

The written policy. The page says, “Georgia law requires the Milton Police Department to maintain written policies governing the operation of its ALPR system and the training of personnel who use the system.” It doesn’t post or link them. The city has not given us a current written policy; our records request for it is due by Oct. 15.

The search log. The page gives a count of searches but no log of them. The Alpharetta and Johns Creek police pages offer a downloadable log of searches, with a stated reason for each, as of our last check in late September.

Audit results. The department has told us a three-member audit team reviews flagged searches. The page says all access “requires a valid reason and is stored indefinitely,” but reports nothing about the audits.

Questions people ask

Does Milton, Georgia have a Flock transparency portal?

Yes. Since early October 2026, the Milton Police Department has had a public Flock transparency page, hosted by Flock at https://transparency.flocksafety.com/milton-ga-pd. The city links to it from its police department page. It went up sometime between Oct. 5 and Oct. 8, and we found no announcement of it.

How long does Milton keep Flock license plate camera data?

365 days, according to the city's Flock page. The department told us in September that it moved from 30 days to 365 in October 2025. Georgia law allows up to 30 months. Alpharetta and Johns Creek keep 30 days, and Roswell says it purges photos after 14.

How many Flock cameras does Milton have?

36, according to the page. In September the department told us 33 are fixed and 3 are mobile, and that 39 marked patrol cars also read license plates. Our map at readroundabout.com/flock-cameras shows where cameras are pinned.

Who can see Milton's license plate camera data?

The page lists 391 organizations granted access, most of them Georgia police departments and sheriff's offices, plus 6 entries labeled federal. It says Milton shares only with Georgia agencies and federal partners that operate in Georgia. The full list, as the page showed it on Oct. 11, 2026, is on this page.

Does Milton publish its Flock policy?

Not on the page. The page says Georgia law requires the department to maintain written policies for the system and for training the officers who use it, but it does not post or link them.

391 organizations, exactly as the page listed them under “Sharing Network Data With” on October 11, 2026

Method and sources

We read Milton’s page on Flock’s site on October 11, 2026; it said “Last updated: Sat Oct 10 2026.” On October 5 at about 12:50 a.m., before a letter to the city, the same address read “Page not found.” The city’s own link page was saved by the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine on October 8 at 11:28 a.m. Eastern. The department’s September statements come from its written answers to The Roundabout. Flock hosts the page and can change it; what is saved here is what it said on October 11. Nothing on this page is sponsored. See something wrong? tips@readroundabout.com.
