The storm. Both warnings were canceled Saturday afternoon. Tell us how it treated your place.

The deer. 63 of you answered our poll, and the biggest group likes having them around.

And. Early voting opens Tuesday, the morning we run the House District 47 answers; Birmingham Park’s easement is signed; a new path on Highway 9; Friday’s football; and a full Thursday ahead.

Top of Mind

the one thing to know this morning

The storm warnings came down early. Friday evening we sent you a storm alert: the National Weather Service had put Milton under a High Wind Warning and a Flood Watch from midnight through 8 a.m. today, as what was left of Hurricane Isaias moved north. By Saturday afternoon the weather service had canceled both, the Flood Watch at 12:27 p.m. and the High Wind Warning at 3:59 p.m.

At 9:06 p.m. Saturday, Sawnee EMC’s outage map showed one customer without power, out of 205,555 customers across its service area. As of Saturday night, no one had reported storm damage in Milton to us. If you’re still in the dark, Georgia Power takes outage reports at 1-888-891-0938 or georgiapower.com/storm, and Sawnee EMC at 770-887-2363 or online.

The week ahead. Today brings a 25 percent chance of a shower and a high near 70. Then it’s sunny and warm: highs of 82 Monday, 85 Tuesday and 87 Wednesday, according to the weather service.

One of the reader questions we sent the House District 47 candidates asks what they would do about Milton’s deer. Their answers run Tuesday.

Your Vote

Early voting starts Tuesday. For the Nov. 3 election, it runs Oct. 13 through Oct. 30, with two Saturdays, Oct. 17 and 24. Milton voters can use any of Fulton County’s early voting sites, the Milton Library on Mayfield Road among them. The state’s My Voter Page shows your sample ballot.

The candidates answer Tuesday. Lindsay DeFranco and Jack Miller, the two candidates for the Georgia House seat in District 47, have the same seven questions from us, and their answers are due Monday at noon. Tuesday’s issue runs every answer word for word, side by side, on the morning early voting opens.

The Drive

roads, closures, and what to route around

A path on Highway 9. Walking between Crooked Creek and Bethany Bend no longer means a worn strip of weeds. Crews have finished a 5-foot-wide gravel path along that stretch of Highway 9, the city says. It sits in the state’s right of way and is a placeholder: a permanent sidewalk could come later with the city’s Highway 9 project, though the city says that wouldn’t happen for years.

Follow-Ups

Birmingham Park, made official. Tuesday we reported Council’s vote to protect Birmingham Park. On Thursday, city and Georgia-Alabama Land Trust officials signed the conservation agreement at the park, permanently protecting 185 acres. Mayor Peyton Jamison called it a “monumental day for the City of Milton.” The city says it is now the largest easement in Fulton County that the land trust oversees, more than twice the size of the next.

The Agenda

Council holds a work session at City Hall on Monday evening, and three city boards meet later in the week.
