Paving at the Hopewell-Thompson roundabout today

the one thing to know this morning
Today is paving day at the Hopewell-Thompson roundabout, so give yourself extra time through the circle by Bloom and Bell Memorial Park. Milling was set for Wednesday, and crews expect to finish the job today.
The city says the work should stay within normal construction hours, roughly 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are through before 9, you are likely ahead of it. After that, plan for delays: some sections will close at times, and flaggers will direct traffic. Weather could shift the schedule.
The paving is the last big piece this week in the safety work we wrote up four weeks ago, which the city first pegged at a few days. The concrete splitter islands, mountable truck apron and reflective markers are in place. More finishing work follows, so expect possible delays into next week, though the city says this week's paving should be the most disruptive part.
The Hopewell and Bethany Bend roundabout is getting the same treatment on roughly the same schedule.
It is all part of the city's Safety in Action program, backed by a $1 million federal Safe Streets for All grant. The city will collect data at both roundabouts, and what works could spread to others around Milton.

Household Hazardous Waste
Milton's free household hazardous waste collection is Saturday, September 26, 8 a.m. to noon, in the Cambridge High School parking lot. Registration is required and opens Monday, September 14 at miltonga.gov/HHWCollection; the link does not work until then. Milton residents only, first come first served, and the city says spots fill.
One thing to know before you load the car: most paint is not accepted. Aerosol paint and spray cans are. Cambridge High's theatre program runs its own paint recycling fundraiser in the same lot that morning, with a fee by type and no registration, so the paint can still come along. The city's list also takes automotive fluids, batteries, propane cylinders and fire extinguishers, flammable liquids, fluorescent bulbs, garden chemicals, cleaning products, anything with mercury in it, pool chemicals, and up to ten gallons of stain or varnish.

Football. Cambridge visits Milton on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Milton is 1-1, a 30-29 win over North Cobb and then 21-20 at Blessed Trinity. Cambridge is 0-2 after a 38-20 home loss to Woodstock.

Volleyball. Milton, now 18-3, lost 3-1 at Johns Creek on Tuesday and hosts St. Francis tonight at 5. Cambridge swept Parkview and Mountain View at home on Tuesday, then lost 2-0 at Marist on Wednesday.
Softball. Milton fell 11-8 to Lanier on Tuesday and is at Roswell tonight at 5:30. Cambridge put up 17 on Centennial and 16 on Chattahoochee this week, and hosts St. Pius X tonight at 6:30.
One that is not ours. Georgia Tech opens the season at home against Colorado tonight at 8, on ESPN. The game was moved to Thursday night in week one, which is the sort of thing that only happens to a game somebody wants to show off. Not a Milton score, and we are running it anyway.

Correction
what we got wrong, and what replaces it
Tuesday's Restaurant Week piece said the only fish on L'Antoinette's regular menu is a $56 halibut. Not so. The menu also lists Dover sole meuniere at $69 and North Atlantic salmon at $36. Laura Boggs, a reader who had already booked a table for the sole, caught it the same morning, which is the best kind of correction to get. The seared redfish on their Restaurant Week menu is still a dish they do not otherwise serve.

Mystery writer Hank Phillippi Ryan brings her new one, Mother Daughter Sister Stranger, out this week from Minotaur, to Poe & Company in Crabapple on Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. It is the Georgia launch: a conversation with book influencer Michael Norris, then a signing. Grilling & Gridiron, Saturday September 12. Lionheart's tailgate takes over the lot behind Truck & Tap in downtown Alpharetta from noon to 7:30, and they have been doing it since 2014. Two games on the screen: Georgia and Western Kentucky at 12:45, Alabama and Kentucky at 3:30. The theme is SEC colors, which in a town with this many Tech degrees is its own kind of provocation. The tents close at 3 and Tech hosts Tennessee at 7, so you can do both.
Getting in is free, and they want you to bring a chair. The Bailey Croom Band plays, and there is a bar. Eating is a $35 tasting wristband, all you can eat, and the tents run noon to 3. Kids under 8 eat free.
It benefits Lionheart Life Center, whose school serves children with challenges of relating and communicating. "We currently raise 59% of the cost of services so that no family pays more than 41% of the actual cost," Cynthia Bradford, the center's development officer, told us.
