Taco Nest scored a 72. Its cooler was running at 65 degrees.

Two Milton restaurants scored below an A this month, and one of them has a county follow-up visit coming.

Taco Nest Taqueria on Highway 9 scored 72 and a C on Sept. 16, after a 96 in February and a 100 last August. The inspector measured cooked steak at 75 degrees and birria sauce at 79 sitting on a counter, chorizo, cooked chicken and cheese dip between 50 and 53 in a reach-in cooler, and that cooler itself running at 65 degrees rather than 41 or below. Food that had been warm more than four hours was thrown out, the rest went to the walk-in, and the cooler was pulled from use until it is repaired. Two other things: the manager on duty could not answer the inspector’s food safety questions, and the kitchen’s cleanup supplies used a bleach that is not approved to kill norovirus. A follow-up inspection is set for Sept. 30.

The Union Restaurant on Providence Road scored 82 and a B on Sept. 21, after two straight 91s. Six items were holding too warm: ham, chicken and sliced cheese in a counter ice bath at 54 and 55 degrees, feta and cut tomatoes in the prep top cooler between 46 and 50, against a 41-degree limit. The inspector marked that one a repeat and the manager threw the food out. Food prepared on site sat uncovered in two reach-in coolers, and squeeze bottles and seasoning containers had no labels. All three were fixed while the inspector was still in the building, and no follow-up was ordered.
