Top of Mind

One Week Until Election Day. Here’s What You Need to Do.

The May 19 primary is seven days away, and early voting is happening right now. Milton Library (855 Mayfield Road) is your closest early voting location — open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., through this Friday, May 15. That’s the last day to vote early.

If you missed our voter guide in Sunday’s issue, here’s the short version: Milton spans two state house districts. District 47 has an open seat for the first time in 24 years — three Republicans and one Democrat. District 49 has an uncontested Republican incumbent and two Democrats competing. Check which district you’re in at mvp.sos.ga.gov.

Other early voting locations nearby: Alpharetta Branch Library (10 Park Plaza) and Fulton County Health & Human Services North (4700 North Point Parkway). On election day, May 19, you must vote at your assigned precinct — look it up at mvp.sos.ga.gov.

Council Watch

TSPLOST III: Deadline This Month

As we reported last week, Milton’s TSPLOST III project list — the one that determines how the city’s next transportation sales tax gets spent — is due to Fulton County by the end of May. Council reviewed the draft list at its May 4 meeting, and the full recording is now on the city’s YouTube channel if you want to see what’s being proposed for your part of town. Expect more discussion at upcoming meetings before the final submission.

Also from City Hall

After nearly 14 years, Community Development Director Bob Buscemi has retired. Buscemi helped shape Milton’s architectural identity — from design guidelines to zoning standards that preserved the city’s equestrian and rural character. His departure is a significant change at City Hall.

One more detail from the alcohol licensing update we covered in Issue #4: in addition to the streamlined temp licenses and Goals on the Green watch parties, the new rules also let breweries sell local wines and wineries sell local beers.

And a heads-up: Fulton County is updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan and wants your input by May 15. This is the countywide emergency planning document that governs things like flood zones, wildfire risk, and severe storm preparedness. Have your say at the Fulton County website.

CPAC Shaping Milton’s Future

The Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC) met May 7 to continue work on Milton’s comprehensive plan update — the document that guides where and how the city grows for the next 10–20 years. If you want to see what’s being proposed for your part of Milton, the full meeting is on YouTube.

The Drive

If you live on or near one of Milton’s 13 miles of gravel roads, good news: crews are starting a dust treatment this week. The city applies a calcium chloride solution that locks down road material and cuts dust. Treatment should take about three weeks, weather permitting.

Freemanville Bridge countdown: Two weeks from today, the Freemanville Road bridge closes for months of GDOT construction (May 26 start, as we reported in Issue #4). If you use Freemanville, now’s the time to map your alternate route. The city plans to close Landrum Road at Birmingham Highway to prevent cut-through traffic on gravel roads.

Last call — GDOT survey closes Thursday: The Little River bridge replacement survey we mentioned in Issue #4 closes May 15. If you’ll be affected by those closures (both bridges, 18 months each, starting 2036), this is your last chance to weigh in on the detour plan. Take the survey here.

School Beat

Fulton County Schools is leading the state. The district earned the most 2025 Academic Performance and Growth Awards in Georgia — a recognition based on student achievement and year-over-year improvement. That includes Milton’s schools: Milton High, Cambridge High, Northwestern Middle, and the rest of our FCS feeder chain.

FCS students also took top honors at the Schuler Competition, a statewide academic contest. It’s been a strong run for the district.

First-Ever Student Service Awards

The City of Milton just created a new honor — and nine seniors earned it. The first-ever Student Service Awards recognize high schoolers who logged at least 225 hours of volunteer work benefiting Milton residents. The winners were honored at the May 4 City Council meeting and each received a cord to wear at graduation.

The 2026 recipients: Reagan Berube, Nathaniel Blahnik, Ella Brown, Caroline Maples, Lauren Mathews, and Sydney O’Connor (Milton High); Grey Donner and Miller Estes (Cambridge High); and Nora Michaelis (King’s Ridge Christian). Their service ranged from making meals for the homeless to helping seniors, veterans, and rescue dogs. Congrats to all nine.

Crabapple Corner

Mark your calendar: the Milton Farmers Market returns to the Market District Crabapple on May 20. The market is seeking vendors for the new season — if you grow it, bake it, or make it, now’s the time to apply. Expect fresh produce, handmade goods, and a community vibe worth the trip.
