Milton's primary results — and your long weekend

Tuesday's election recap · TSPLOST $3.5M vote · Splash N Bash Saturday · Memorial Day Monday

⚠ Editor's note — May 21, 2026

An earlier version of this issue stated that Jack Miller won the House District 47 primary outright with 50.7%. That was incorrect — the result was based on incomplete tabulations across the district's two counties. The full count shows Miller at 49.26%, just short of the 50%+1 threshold. Miller and Brian Cochran will meet in a June 16 runoff. A full correction appears in our next issue. We regret the error.

Milton's primary: what your city voted Tuesday

Tuesday's general primary produced winners, runoffs, and a November race worth tracking. Here's the short version for Milton readers.

GA House District 47 — Milton's own race. Jack Miller won the Republican primary outright with 50.7%, clearing the 50% threshold and avoiding a runoff. Brian Cochran finished second at 35.6%, Phoebe Eckhardt third at 13.7%. Miller advances directly to November.

Governor (Republican runoff, June 16). Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and healthcare executive Rick Jackson both fell short of 50%, sending the race to a June 16 runoff. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Attorney General Chris Carr were eliminated. The runoff winner faces Keisha Lance Bottoms (D), who cleared 50% in the Democratic primary and advances to November.

U.S. Senate (Republican runoff, June 16). Rep. Mike Collins (~41%) and Derek Dooley (~30%) — a former University of Tennessee football coach endorsed by Gov. Kemp — both advance. Rep. Buddy Carter was eliminated. Democrat Jon Ossoff ran unopposed and has raised nearly $60 million this cycle.

Fulton County Commission Chairman (runoff, June 16). Mo Ivory (~40%) and incumbent Robert Pitts (~35%) are headed to a June 16 runoff. No candidate cleared 50%.

The June 16 runoff covers all four of these races. Runoff turnout tends to be a fraction of primary turnout — if any of these matter to you, that's the day to show up.

Council Watch

At Monday's City Council meeting, Milton voted to allocate more than $3.5 million in TSPLOST funds toward transportation projects. This is the third round of the Fulton County transportation sales tax — prior rounds funded roundabouts, bridge upgrades, streetscape improvements, and culvert replacements across the city. The latest allocation moves those projects from the list to the construction pipeline.

The Board of Zoning Appeals also met Tuesday evening (May 19) for its regular session. Agenda and minutes will post to miltonga.gov. The BZA has been handling a steady workload of variance applications on the residential side this spring.

Both meetings are available on the City of Milton's YouTube channel.

This Weekend

Splash 'N Bash — Saturday, May 23, 11 AM–2 PM. The city's annual pool opening celebration returns to Milton City Park and Preserve. Free event, open to all Milton residents. A good excuse to get out before the heat fully sets in.

Memorial Day Ceremony — Monday, May 25, 10:00 AM at The Green at Crabapple Market. Milton's annual ceremony honors those who gave their lives in military service. This year's observance is part of the city's America250 commemoration, tracing back to the Revolutionary War. Free and open to all. City Hall is closed Monday.

Memorial Day is about the people who didn't come home. Monday morning's ceremony is a simple, right way to begin the day — before the cookouts start.

One reminder before the long weekend: the state burn ban is in effect through September 30 in Fulton County. That covers open burning of yard waste and land-clearing debris. Plan your outdoor fires accordingly.

New York Butcher Shoppe at Crabapple Station is reopening under new ownership this Memorial Day Weekend — timed perfectly if you're planning a cookout. The shop, in the heart of downtown Crabapple, carries steaks, burger meat, sausages, sides, and dips. nybutcher.com/crabapple

Birmingham Falls and Summit Hill each took Highest Performing Gold; Crabapple Crossing earned Highest Performing Silver. FCS outpaced all other districts in total SSAS awards statewide.
