Top of Mind
Nine people spoke at Council last night. Most came about the same thing.
Five days ago we reported that Restoration Church owns 29 acres at Arnold Mill and New Providence, and that the city told us on August 12 nothing had been filed. Both still hold. We held the price until the deed confirmed it. It was $7.5 million, paid December 18, 2025.
The two parcels together run from Arnold Mill Road across to New Providence Road.
What changed last night is the size. Sarah Moen, a Milton resident who lives on New Providence Road, read the church's own announcements, dated August 2 and August 9, into the record: 1,248 seats, more than 100,000 square feet, and 40 acres, which would be about 11 more than they own today. She said the design is roughly 70 percent finished. We have not heard those recordings ourselves.
She also gave Council a timeline. It starts July 24, 2025, she said, when a brokerage agent for the church contacted the city. She was specific that the church itself has never contacted the city, only its outside agents.
Her petition had 1,002 verified signatures this morning.
She was careful about one thing. Nobody is anti-church, she said. The opposition is to any large, high intensity development on AG-1 land, and it stays a land use issue.
We reached Restoration Church for comment on August 10 and have not heard back.
The part you can do something about. Milton is rewriting its land use map right now. That map is what every rezoning argument gets measured against, including this one if it is ever filed. The redlined draft is public at miltonga.gov/2026CompPlanUpdate. It is easier to shape that map now than to argue with it later.
Also Monday. Council approved its annual capital improvements update: $1.2 million spent on Deerfield Park land, the Morris Road widening and a general fund reimbursement, with $2.3 million left. Near term priorities are Deerfield Park, Fire Station 45 and the public safety building. It settled a greenway condemnation at $42,000. Then it went behind closed doors for litigation, personnel and land.

Toddler Tuesdays start this morning
If you have a toddler and a free morning, the city is running open play at the Community Center at Milton City Park and Preserve, 1785 Dinsmore Road. Toys, room to run, and other parents.
Today, 9 AM to noon, and again 3 to 5 PM. Free. The city asks that you register so it can plan for numbers: miltonga.gov/ToddlerTuesdays
It runs monthly from here. September 1 is the same format at the park. Then it moves to the Broadwell Pavilion on Broadwell Road: a free Music Together class on October 6 at 9:30 or 10:30, a free Kidokinetics class on November 10 from 10 to 11, and on December 1 a 9 AM to noon session that doubles as Milton's 20th birthday party, with free cupcake decorating at 10 and 10:30.
The farmers market is back
It returns Wednesday, in a new spot: the new greenspace at the eastern end of the Market District in Crabapple, next to Hyde Brewing.
Wednesday, August 19, 4 to 7 PM. It runs once a month now, so this is August's.
The Drive

The Scoreboard
Milton High football opens at home Friday at 7:30 against North Cobb. Cambridge opened last week.
The game to circle is not a region game. Cambridge plays at Milton on Friday, September 4. The two schools meet in softball first, on Tuesday, August 25 at Milton.
Football is not even the busy part yet. Milton volleyball is 11-0. Cambridge softball is 5-0. Neither has lost a game this season.
This is also the first season the two Milton schools sit in different classifications. The GHSA redrew its map for 2026 through 2028: Class 7A returned, Milton is in 6A alongside Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Roswell and Gainesville, and Cambridge stayed in 5A opposite Marist, Blessed Trinity and St. Pius X.

Milton Restaurant Week has a lineup. The city posted the 2026 list last week without announcing it. Fifteen restaurants, September 8 to 14, and the menus are already up: $25 per person at The Union, $30 at Smoke on the Farm and Tres Lunas, $39 at B&B Tavern, $48 at Lily Sushi, $55 at 7 Acre and L'Antoinette. New this year are B&B Tavern Crabapple and Lily Sushi Bar, which just won Best Sushi in our awards.

The Heat Advisory expired Monday at 8 PM, but if you spent the weekend outside, you felt it. Heat index hit 109. The overnight lows didn't help much either, just sticky air that never really broke.
This week looks milder (low 90s, per NWS), but August is August. Hydrate before you feel thirsty. Check on neighbors who don't have AC. The heat doesn't announce itself until you're already behind.
