Milton's Morris Road just shifted lanes
Plus a $12K morning in the woods, Parks & Rec Month, and your Fourth of July week.
Top of Mind
Morris Road just shifted, and the finish line's in sight
If you drive Morris Road, you've probably felt the change: between Bethany Bend and the Webb Road roundabout, both lanes have moved from the left side to the right of what will eventually be a wider, four-lane road (two lanes each way). The city says it shouldn't change your commute; these intermittent shifts are routine for a project this size.
And there's real progress up and down the corridor. The 10-foot multi-use path and 5-foot sidewalk are each about 80% done, demolition of the old Webb Road roundabout is finished, and crews are pouring fresh concrete while preserving the center island. When it's complete, the roundabout gets decorative colored concrete, a landscaped median, new stormwater infrastructure, and sod that's already taking root.
The widening runs from the Deerfield Avenue/Webb Road roundabout up to McGinnis Ferry, where GDOT just opened the new GA-400 interchange. Target completion for the TSPLOST-funded project: this September.

150 runners, $12,000, and 308 bikes in Vietnam
On the morning of June 27, about 150 runners took off into the woods to tackle Milton High's cross country course, and turned it into more than $12,000 for two local nonprofits. It was the team captains' first-ever fundraiser, and it felt like the whole town showed up: parents cheering the final stretch, dogs in costumes, kids from neighboring schools signing up to help.
The proceeds split between the Pedal Forward Foundation and Stella Love, a free pantry that will use its share to stay stocked through the high-demand summer and expand its programming for kids. Pedal Forward was founded last year by team captain Jonathan Thai. Two days before the run, he and 10 partners were in Vietnam handing 308 bikes to children across four provinces.
"I'm just so glad that everyone has come out to support these nonprofits today," Thai said. "It's really great that we were able to get the community together." Closer to home, Pedal Forward gives free bike lessons and gear to underserved kids, so this one morning means more local children can ride for free.

It's Parks & Rec Month, and there's a scavenger hunt
Every July, Milton joins cities across the country in celebrating Parks and Recreation Month: four weeks to spotlight the trails, events, and programs that make the parks system what it is. This year's twist is a Scavenger Hunt. Explore Milton's parks, snap photos matching each challenge, and win prizes. Grab the form at miltonga.gov/ScavengerHunt, do as many tasks as you can, and email your proof to parksandrec@miltonga.gov by July 31. Everyone who plays takes home at least a small prize.
There's a packed slate of ranger hikes, a moth-week night walk, camps, and more this month (the dated ones are in The Week Ahead below). To plan year-round, the city's Activities Guide is a good start, and we keep the running list on our own Milton events page.

Assessment Season
A flat rate can still mean a bigger bill
A quick note for anyone who opened a 2026 Fulton assessment notice and did a double take. Next door in Alpharetta, the city is holding its millage rate flat (5.75, unchanged since 2009), yet it still had to advertise a 6.5% property-tax increase, because rising reassessments alone push bills up even when the rate doesn't move. The same math applies in Milton. If your assessed value jumped and the number looks off, this is the season to review it; appeal deadlines come fast.
One More Thing
However you spend it, at the Broadwell parade, poolside, or knee-deep in a cooler, we hope your Fourth is a good one. Be kind to the horses, and we'll see you around Milton.
